Our inshore waters are teeming with some of the most sought-after gamefish in the region. Here's a rundown of what you might find at the end of your line:
Snook: These hard-fighting linesiders are the rock stars of inshore fishing. Known for their explosive strikes and acrobatic jumps, snook love to hang around structure like mangroves and docks. They're most active in the warmer months, but with our year-round population, there's always a chance to tangle with one of these silver bullets.
Sheepshead: Don't let their prison-striped appearance fool you – these crafty fish are masters of bait-stealing. Nicknamed "convict fish," sheepshead are a blast to catch and even better to eat. They've got a set of chompers that can crush barnacles, so we'll use special techniques to hook these wily creatures.
Redfish: Also known as red drum, these copper-colored beauties are a favorite among inshore anglers. They're known for their distinctive spot near the tail and their powerful runs. Redfish can be found year-round, but fall is prime time when they school up in big numbers.
Black Grouper: While we're inshore, we might get lucky and hook into a juvenile black grouper. These fish start their lives in the shallows before moving offshore. They're hard-fighters with a delicious white flesh that makes them a prized catch. Landing one of these guys is always a treat on an inshore trip.
There you have it, folks – a 4-hour inshore fishing trip that packs in all the action you could want. From the thrill of the hunt to the satisfaction of reeling in your own dinner, this trip has it all. Capt. Sonny was not pleasant to my family. I know the weather was not good and it seemed like he did not want to be out fishing that day. He has to remember that not everyone is a pro fisherperson. The first mate was nice at least. I really feel bad that my family came down to visit and the experience was not good. I will not be using him again.

Sonny was a great host and great company. Our fishing spots were limited as there was a lot of wind that day. Still, Sonny put us on fish and made sure it was a great experience for us. If you're thinking about booking a trip, definitely do it. You will really enjoy yourself.

Black grouper are hefty reef fish that put up a serious fight. Most run 2-3 feet long but can reach over 100 pounds. You'll find them around offshore wrecks, reefs and ledges in 30-300 feet of water. They're here year-round but move shallower in colder months. Anglers target them for their powerful runs and excellent table fare. Their firm white meat is a favorite for grilling or blackening. To land a big one, use heavy tackle with 80+ pound line. Drop large live baits like pinfish right to the bottom. When you feel a bite, crank hard and fast - grouper love to duck back into their holes and break you off. It's a real battle, but that's what makes landing one so satisfying.
Redfish are one of our most popular inshore species. They typically run 5-15 pounds but can grow over 40 inches and 50 pounds. Look for them in shallow flats and around oyster bars, often so shallow their backs are out of the water. Fall is prime time as they school up to spawn. Anglers love sight-fishing for tailing reds and the strong fights they put up. Their meat is also excellent eating. For best results, use live bait like shrimp or mullet, or try topwater lures early morning. Watch for their tell-tale black spot near the tail - it's actually a false eye to trick predators. When you hook one, keep it away from structure and be ready for some hard runs.
Sheepshead are quirky-looking fish with human-like teeth and black stripes that earned them the nickname "convict fish." Most run 1-8 pounds, but they can reach 20+ pounds. You'll find them around any structure with barnacles - docks, bridges, jetties. They're here year-round but really stack up in early spring to spawn. Anglers enjoy the challenge of catching these bait-stealers, plus they're excellent eating. Their tough scales make them tricky to clean, but the sweet white meat is worth it. To catch sheepshead, use small hooks with fiddler crabs or shrimp. Fish right up against pilings and set the hook fast - these guys are experts at nibbling bait off the hook without getting caught.
Snook are one of our most exciting inshore catches. These powerful fish usually run 1-3 feet long and put up an incredible fight. You'll find them hanging around mangroves, docks, and other structures in shallow water. Spring and fall are prime seasons when water temps are just right. Anglers love targeting snook for their aggressive strikes and acrobatic leaps when hooked. Their meat is also excellent eating when in season. For the best shot at landing a big one, use live bait like pilchards or pinfish and cast right up against structure. Snook are masters at wrapping you around pilings, so be ready to muscle them away fast once they bite. It takes some skill, but that's what makes catching these "linesiders" so rewarding.
